Taxi quality campaign
In March of 2006, Hamburg Airport launched a quality campaign for taxis at the airport. Against the background of the constantly rising numbers of tourists, the campaign succeeded in establishing a consistently high level of quality in the taxi business at the airport. In cooperation with the taxi associations and the relevant authorities, details were specified to allow for the new regulations to come into force as of March 2006.
Contracts containing clearly defined quality criteria are concluded between Flughafen Hamburg GmbH and the taxi companies. The contracts are accessible to all taxi entrepreneurs who are willing to comply with the quality features specified in the agreement. Taxi entrepreneurs who sign the contract receive one authorisation card per taxi to allow for access to the main taxi area as well as the departure locations in front of the terminals. Flughafen Hamburg GmbH verifies compliance with the quality criteria at regular intervals.
By signing the written agreement, the taxi entrepreneurs primarily undertake to exclusively use cars that are in an excellent condition in terms of both technology and appearance. The drivers need to know their way around Hamburg and are required to have sufficient knowledge of the German as well as basic knowledge of the English language. Furthermore, passengers must have the option of making cashless payments. During the introductory phase, the airport offered crash courses in English free of charge. Child safety seats are mandatory and must be provided upon the passenger’s request. Beyond this, the aim of the quality campaign is to ensure that the drivers act responsibly and with a focus on the customers, that they assist the latter with their luggage and carry it to the front door upon request.
