Verein Hamburger Spediteure

As early as 1884, Hamburg's forwarders founded an association ("Verein Hamburger Spediteure e.V.") to represent the joint economic and socio-political interests of the member firms. The Association represents the Hamburg forwarders' interests over and against local and national authorities and other transport industries. The Association of Hamburg Forwarders, as the employers' federation, negotiates with the respective trade union to conclude wage agreements for the blue- and white-collar employees of the forwarding firms. Qualified experts at the Association's head office can provide the forwarding firms with advice in matters affecting each particular firm. The member firms - currently some 350 firms - receive weekly newsletters containing information on all the changes and developments in forwarding business. Membership of the Association is voluntary - but the reasons are varied.
