- Hamburg Airport Wins Routes Marketing Award 2009
Hamburg Airport’s Aviation Marketing team is amongst the winners of this year’s Routes Marketing Award. The team, led by Dr Jörgen Kearsley, received the coveted
prize during a gala dinner at the Routes Conference in Prague yesterday evening. Hamburg Airport overcame Zürich, Vienna, Munich and Moscow to win the category of
“Central and Eastern Europe”. Some 650 conference participants were present at the dinner, including representatives of 75 airlines and around 200 airports.
The Routes Marketing Award recognises, amongst other things, Hamburg Airport’s commitment to the development of new marketing tools. A new company database,
for example, provides the airport and airlines with detailed information on the travel behaviour of local businesses. Hamburg Airport’s marketing push in southern
Denmark, launched in 2008 and including radio spots, advertisements in daily newspapers and online advertising, also contributed to the team’s success. The number of
passengers from Denmark using Hamburg Airport has been growing steadily, climbing from 40,000 in 2006 to 90,000 in 2008. Last but not least, the Aviation Marketing team garnered points with its professional presentation at the Routes 2009 conference in Prague. Dressed in characteristic Hanseatic maritime style, Hamburg Airport’s team is still speaking with its airline partners today, as the conference draws to a close.
“For northern Germany, Hamburg Airport is the gateway to the world. Currently, around 60 airlines connect the airport with 125 destinations worldwide. This extensive
route network is the result of the dedicated efforts of our Aviation Marketing department. For the departmental team, the Routes Marketing Award 2009 is proof that
innovative ideas and dedication pay off,” declares Michael Eggenschwiler, CEO of Hamburg Airport, delightedly.
The overall winner in the category of “European Airports” was Athens International Airport. Other winners included Riga (Scandinavia and the Baltic States) and
Brussels (Western Europe). The Routes Conference is the leading contact and networking event for the airline and airport sector. The event has been held at a different location each year since its inception in 1995.
