Daily non-stop to Dubai with Emirates - Hamburg Airport celebrates

The official launch of the first daily non-stop route between Hamburg and Dubai was celebrated today. To mark this historic occasion His Highness Sheikh Ahmed Bin Saeed Al-Maktoum, Chief Executive Officer of the Emirates Group, made an official visit to Hamburg. His Highness and a high-ranking commercial delegation from Dubai were received by Michael Eggenschwiler, CEO of Hamburg Airport. Gunnar Uldall, Minister of Economy and Labour in the Free and Hanseatic City of Hamburg, was also on board the Emirates aircraft. Minister Uldall had been in Dubai to participate in the celebrations of the first Dubai-Hamburg flight there. The Hamburg Police Orchestra in gala uniform welcomed the guests to Hamburg Airport with music. This was followed by a press conference attended by the Governing Mayor of the Free and Hanseatic City of Hamburg, Ole von Beust.

Emirates commenced service on the Hamburg-Dubai route on 1 March 2006, bringing passengers from northern Germany to Dubai in only 6 hours aboard the latest Airbus A330-200 aircraft. From there, the airline’s world-famous service can be further enjoyed on any one of the vast range of connections to 54 different countries. 20 destinations in Asia alone can now be comfortably reached from Hamburg with just one short stop in Dubai. Michael Eggenschwiler, CEO of Hamburg Airport, described the significance of this new route for the city of Hamburg: “With the new daily non-stop service to Dubai, Hamburg Airport is linked to Emirates’ international hub. The excellent connections from Dubai to destinations in Asia, Australia and Africa are naturally very interesting for leisure travellers.
The non-stop service to the United Arab Emirates is also extremely attractive for Hamburg’s business travellers, though. Some 343 Hamburg companies are commercially involved with the United Arab Emirates, and 56 Hamburg businesses have a permanent representative or branch office there.”

Hamburg is attractive for tourists from the Gulf region
Hamburg also has a lot to offer visitors from the Arabian Peninsula. With its maritime charm, its exclusive shopping opportunities and a broad range of cultural and leisure activities, the northern German metropolis in the heart of Europe attracts several million tourists every year. In terms of sport, too, Hamburg is a very attractive travel destination this year. A total of 5 FIFA World Cup matches will be taking place in the city. Emirates, an official partner of the FIFA World Cup, will be bringing football fans from the Middle East directly to the games in Hamburg.

Hamburg has also made a name for itself in the United Arab Emirates in another area: health tourism and medical technology. The city was an exhibitor at the world's second-largest medical trade fair, “Arab Health”, in Dubai last year. More and more visitors from the Middle East are coming to Hamburg to receive medical treatment of the absolute highest quality.
