Michael Eggenschwiler and Claus Dieter Wehr appointed as new Board of Management of Hamburg Airport

Flughafen Hamburg GmbH, the Hamburg Airport operating company, has announced a change in the company’s Board of Management: effective 1 March, Michael Eggenschwiler has been appointed Chairman of the Board of Management of Hamburg Airport. He takes over from Werner Hauschild, who is retiring at the end of February. As from 1 July 2005, Claus-Dieter Wehr will join Mr Eggenschwiler in the Board of Management. Gunnar Uldall, the Senator for Economic Affairs of the City of Hamburg, and Dr Ulrich Stucke, managing director of HOCHTIEF Airport GmbH, presented the new Board of Management today in Hamburg’s City Hall.

Michael Eggenschwiler was appointed Executive Officer of Hamburg Airport in January 2003. Since his appointment, the Airport has introduced many new services and successfully completed a comprehensive, future-oriented package of restructuring measures. After graduating from St. Gallen University with a degree in business administration, Mr Eggenschwiler worked in a number of different executive positions for the airlines Crossair and Swissair, latterly as head of Swiss market operations at Swissair. Michael Eggenschwiler is 46 years old and is married with two children.

Claus-Dieter Wehr will be joining the Airport on 1 July 2005. He is currently managing director of Condor Flugdienst GmbH. After gaining a degree in engineering from RWTH Aachen University, he served in a succession of different management positions at the aviation companies Swissair, SR Technics and Condor, latterly as managing director of flight operations, traffic control, ground handling and engineering for Condor. Claus-Dieter Wehr is a renowned aviation expert; he holds an executive MBA degree from St. Gallen University. Mr Wehr is 43 years old and married.

Werner Hauschild was appointed Chairman of the Board of Management in January 1994. He has played a decisive role in the development of Hamburg Airport over the past ten years and has made an immense contribution to making the Airport a commercially successful enterprise with a strong future orientation. The HAM 21 Extension project and the Airport’s “Hamburg Model” corporate structure are inseparably linked with Mr Hauschild’s name. The Senate of the City of Hamburg will be honouring Mr Hauschild’s outstanding service and contribution at a reception to be held when the new Terminal 2 is officially opened in May 2005.

Senator Gunnar Uldall: “Michael Eggenschwiler and Claus-Dieter Wehr are two internationally recognised aviation experts and we are delighted to have such a strong team at the helm of Hamburg Airport. Michael Eggenschwiler has very successfully led the Airport together with Werner Hauschild since January 2003. The new Board of Management faces great change and exciting challenges, which we are confident both executives will tackle and master with exceptional success. The Airport is a gateway to the world and its significance for the City of Hamburg and the greater Hamburg region is immense. The HAM 21 Extension project, with its total investment volume of €350 million, will further consolidate the Airport’s position as the leading hub for the region.”

Dr. Ulrich Stucke, Managing Director of HOCHTIEF AirPort GmbH: “We are thrilled to have such a competent team as Michael Eggenschwiler and Claus-Dieter Wehr in charge of Hamburg Airport. HOCHTIEF AirPort and the City of Hamburg have been working together very successfully for many years and the appointment of the new Board of  Management is further proof of the excellent level of cooperation between the Airport’s private-sector and public stakeholders.”

The shareholders of Flughafen Hamburg GmbH (FHG) are the City of Hamburg (51 per cent) and Hamburg Airport Partners GmbH & Co KG (49 per cent), with the latter comprising Hochtief Airport GmbH and Dublin Airport Authority plc. HOCHTIEF AirPort is the largest private-sector shareholder of Flughafen Hamburg GmbH.
