- Download flight schedules to Palm handheld devices
Good news for frequent fliers: as from 2nd April passengers will be able to enjoy the convenience of downloading Hamburg Airport's flight schedule to Palm handheld devices. The new downloadable flight schedule is updated monthly. Hamburg Airport is the first airport in Germany to offer this pioneering new service.
The service, which allows users to save and update flight times to and from Hamburg Airport, is very easy to use: the "Flight Information" section of the Hamburg Airport website http://www.ham.airport.de/ contains a menu item called "Timetable". Palm owners can simply click on "Palm Download" and a few minutes later a full list of all arrival and departure times, plus a whole host of other useful information, will arrive on their Palm device and can be saved. The service is based on Palm OS/2, the most widely used handheld operating system, and is available in German and English.
Hamburg Airport's online timetable has also been upgraded. The schedule now includes all new destinations and is constantly updated; unlike the printed timetable it contains any new additions or alterations to the timetable. "Our new service gives passengers access to the 600 destinations world-wide that can be reached directly or with one transfer from Hamburg Airport", explained Dr. Thomas Immelmann, Director of Corporate Communication and Marketing at Hamburg Airport. A further useful function in the online timetable is the explanation of the international airport abbreviations commonly used. For instance, if the mouse pointer stops on the abbreviation LHR then a popup appears giving the full name: London/Heathrow. Passengers can also restrict their search to either direct and non-stop flights or flights with a stop-off or transfer.
